Zhenjiang Parks

December 18th, 2009

It is a fairly small town, perhaps best known as a house girl Nobel laureate author Pearl S. Buck.

Four major parks in Zhenjiang is the most common destinations for tourists. Access to each park costs RMB 30-50, and parks with pagodas admission charge for others (about 10) if you want to climb the pagoda.

Jiaoshan Park is a small island in the Yangtze River and offers a large pagoda, Peacock Farm, and many trails winding through the dense foliage. The bamboo forest covering part of the island.

Jinshan Park is located in north-west of Zhenjiang and includes another large pagoda. The Buddhist temple and a large lake (complete with paddle boats available), most of the park.

Beigushan Park on the north side of Zhenjiang and has a path with lights lit after sunset. The park is surrounded by lakes and landscaped the Yangtze River.

Nanshan Park is located on the south side of Zhenjiang. Contains a different hill trails up and down. A large temple on a hilltop with stunning views over the city, the river and the surrounding area. The ascent is very simple and takes less than an hour. Many people  barbecue at small pits next to a lake to the East of the park entrance.

The parks are all nice, but unfortunately, if you have gone to one of them , you have been to all. Jiaoshan is good if you want to get away from people (it is almost empty all the time) and Jinshan is fine if you want to paddle a boat around the lake (and electric boats available for use). Nanshan is under renovation (early 2008) and hopefully will improve significantly.
